From The Prayer of a Frog
Four monks decided to go into silence for a month.
The first few days went well but after the fifth day one monk said, “I can’t remember if I locked the back door to the monastery on our way out.”
The second monk said, “You fool! We’ve been so good so far in keeping to our vow of silence and now you have gone and broken it!”
A third monk said. “What about you? You have just broke the silence yourself!”
Said the fourth month. quite self-righteously, “Am I the only one here with the discipline to keep the silence?”
